POSITION PAPER : "TEACHING STUDENTS ABOUT SEX EDUCATION IS LIKE TEACHING THEM TO HAVE SEX"

Sex is a natural part of life, and it happens with or without sex education. 71% of American 19-year-olds have had intercourse. 99% of Americans will have sex in their lifetime. Only 20 states require sex and HIV education be taught in schools. Sex is a fundamental part of being human, but less than half of our states require sex and HIV education, and most of what is taught are sub-par. Just because we refuse to talk about sex doesn’t mean it's just going to go away. There are 35 states that have laws that allow parents to opt their children out of sex ed. Even worse, 3 states make parents opt their children into sex ed. You can't opt your children in or out of math. But when it comes to sex education, one of the most important things you can learn in school, a parent can take their kid out for no reason at all. I am all for religious freedom, but just because you or your religion values abstinence doesn’t mean your kids will too. It's important teens get all the information they can, and then make a decision about their own values. Don't let religion or family values be a reason to let students be taken out of sexual health education. Don't let your morals obstruct your kid's learning.

There are so many reasons to support sex education. First, Studies Say "Just Say No" Doesn't Change Opinions. The research has shown it time and time again: Abstinence-only education doesn't affect the rates at which teenagers decide to have sex. Given that the primary purpose of abstinence-only education is to do exactly that, it is clear that it doesn't work. Second, Just Teaching No Doesn't Help Those Who Will Say Yes. One of the biggest problems with abstinence-only education is that it denies teenagers the chance to learn about acceptable options other than abstinence. Given that no form of sex education has been shown to effectively convince teenagers not to have sex, this is a significant problem. Third, Just Because You Have A Raincoat Doesn't Mean It's Going To Rain. There's a silver lining to studies that say abstinence-only doesn't encourage kids not to have sex. What is it? All the other studies that say providing condoms in schools doesn't make kids more promiscuous. Over the past 20 years, numerous studies have consistently demonstrated that teaching comprehensive sex education in schools doesn't have the downside most people are afraid of. Fourth, 1 in 2 High School Students Have Had Sex. Which One Is Yours? A large number of teens are sexually active. According to the Youth Risk Behavioral Surveillance Survey, or YRBSS, in 2015, 41 percent of high school students had had sex at least once. Eleven-and-a-half percent had had four or more sexual partners. Fifty-seven percent of sexually active students had used condoms the last time they had sex, but only 18 percent had used birth control pills. Furthermore, one-fifth of sexually active high school students had used drugs or alcohol before the most recent time they had sex. Fifth, Start Safe and Stay Safe. A 2007 study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that teens who start using condoms from the first time they have intercourse score higher on several sexual health measures than teens who don't. The scientists followed more than 4,000 teens for an average of almost seven years. They found that those adolescents who used condoms at their first intercourse had the same number of sexual partners as those who didn't. Sixth, Boys Want to Be Men, So Teach Them to Be Good Men. Part of staying healthy is seeking appropriate health care. As boys age, many of them stop going for preventative health care. This limits the opportunities they have to be screened for, among other things, STDs. A study in Pediatrics found that parents who talk to their male children about sex are more likely to have boys who go to the doctor. It's all about setting a good example. Seventh, Comprehensive Sex Ed Doesn't Encourage Kids to Have Sex. Comprehensive sex education doesn't encourage kids to have sex. Just like abstinence-only programs, good comprehensive programs teach students that abstinence is the only surefire way to prevent pregnancy and STDs. The difference is that these programs also give students realistic and factual information about the safety of various sexual practices, and how to improve the odds. Eighth, It's the Parents' Job to Teach the Faith. Nothing about comprehensive sex education prevents parents from teaching their kids their standards for moral behavior. If anything, having them learn the facts at school frees parents to focus on explaining their own personal religious beliefs and behavioral expectations. Ninth, The More Kids Know, the More Likely They Are to Say No. Teenagers aren't stupid. When a teacher tells them that only abstinence can protect them from the dangers of STDs and pregnancy, they know they're being lied to. At the very least, they know they're being misled. Giving adolescents an accurate picture of the risks of different types of sexual behavior can help them make informed decisions about sex. The most effective sex education programs tend to be the ones that try to steer teens away from specific activities that are particularly high risk. Tenth and the least reason is, Comprehensive Sex Encourages Abstinence, Not Ignorance. What do teenagers do when they haven't been given accurate information about sexual risks? They have oral sex, or even anal sex, instead of vaginal intercourse. In particular, many teenagers don't see oral sex as incompatible with abstinence.

To conclude, I disagree with the statement. I believe that Sex education is important. It's been proven time and time again. We know students who receive formal sex education in schools are shown to first have sexual intercourse later than students who have not had sex education. Sex education does not encourage teenagers to have sex, it does quite the opposite. Every teenager should have sex education incorporated into their schooling. It shouldn’t be opt-in or opt-out but mandatory. Why should parents be able to opt their children in or out of a subject that they'll need later in life, one way or another? Sex education should be mandatory, comprehensive, medically accurate, and taught throughout student's school years, just like math. It's been shown to help students, not hurt. Not only is having access to sex education that is not only comprehensive but medically accurate a human right; it's our fundamental duty as a society to educate the next generation. Currently, we are failing.

WRITTEN REPORT : DIFFICULTIES OF STUDENTS IN CITING SOURCES

As a student, I can admit that sometimes, I still have difficulties in citing sources so base on my own little observation and some research, here are some of the difficulties of students when it comes to citing sources. First is having utilization of various styles which means, Diverse orders require that the references should be in various styles: which production data is incorporated and in what arrange. So the references for various courses could appear to be unique, especially for courses outside their major. Students can’t cite sources easily because of different styles of their sources that can be written and it’s very difficult to choose or identify which should they use and which is more appropriate to use. Next is the time. When they were an understudy taking numerous classes all the while and confronting numerous due dates, it might be difficult to commit the time expected to do great grant and precisely speaking to the sources they have utilized. Research requires significant investment. The sooner they can begin and the additional time they can dedicate to it, the better their work will be. From the earliest starting point, They should make certain to incorporate into their notes where they found the data they could cite, reword, and abridge in their last item. Then moving desires for reference. In light of new advances that make discovering, utilizing, and sharing data less demanding, huge numbers of our social desires around how to do that are changing too. For instance, blog entries regularly "reference" different articles or works by essentially connecting to them. It makes it simple for the peruser to see where the creator's thoughts have originated from and to see the source rapidly. However, in these more casual compositions, blog creators don't have a rundown of references. The connections take the necessary steps for them. This is an awesome technique for online computerized mediums, however this strategy bombs after some time when joins break and there are no indications like a creator, title, and date to know by what other means to discover the reference, which may have moved. This case of a social difference in desires in the non-scholastic world may influence it to appear that there has been an adjustment in scholastic grant too or might make individuals new to scholarly grant even less comfortable with reference. Be that as it may, indeed, the desires around referring to sources in the scholarly research stay formal. Last is being not familiar with the material or the information they are utilizing. On the off chance that they are working in another field or branch of knowledge, they may experience issues understanding the data from different researchers, along these lines making it hard to know how to reword or abridge that function appropriately. If the students weren’t really familiar with the topic of research they were doing, it can be possible a cause of difficulties for them of course. They can’t choose wether which site or which author they should be using and which is more credible.

My Recommendations :
When utilizing another creator's licensed innovation, it is basic that you appropriately refer to your source. Giving credit benefits your believability as a creator as well as help you stay away from literary theft. Make certain to precisely report all the vital reference data for your sources while looking into to make the procedure substantially less demanding.
There are numerous organizations for reference styles, and they shift as per scholastic teach. The Cutting edge Dialect Affiliation (MLA) has a particular configuration for reference data that will be incorporated both in-content and on a Works Referred to the page. This arrangement is utilized for English and some different humanities courses and incorporates expressive traditions for the organization of the paper and in addition to the references.
Essentially, the American Mental Affiliation (APA) has its own type of reference and arranging that is frequently used by courses in the sociologies. However, another style of reference is the Chicago Manual of Style, which is frequently utilized as a part of research papers for history and a few humanities courses.
And last and most important is that if you are having difficulties in citing sources, you ought to dependably check with your teacher about which reference arrangement to utilize.

CONCEPT PAPER ABOUT TAYLOR SWIFT'S LETTER TO APPLE MUSIC

The said letter was written by a popular singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift. The letter consists or includes argument and opinions of Taylor about the Apple company who was having an issue on its 3 month trial period on iTunes. Taylor insists that they should change this policy not because for her own sake but for the sake of new artists who were just starting their career. She wants to remove the said policy and pay all the artists for the music they created.

For me, I agreed for what she said. It was written in the letter that the three months free trial is a long time to go unpaid and it is unfair to ask anyone to work for nothing. I understand why the fights for this. It is maybe because she knew she was once like them. I fully supported all of her argument for she was just fighting for the rights of new artists and for those who are just starting their career.

In conclusion, Taylor’s purpose in asking Apple to change its policy is really an amazing thing for she uses her popularity not for her own sake but for the sake of others. It was impressive and very touching at the same time. However, this may result to worsen this kind of problem. Issues like Taylor just wanted to earn more money and other bad issues may be thrown at her after sending this letter. It may be purely just an act of kindness but we never know, people are quick to judge and instead of helping, she may worsen their situation even more.

DEAD WATER BY WU YI-TUO

The poem was written by the Chinese poet Wen Yi-Tuo. He was a patriotic poet and fighter. In 1922, Wen Yi-Tuo went to the USA to study in order to use his knowledge to serve China. However, on the foreign land, the poet suffered all kinds of hardships such as discrimination for being Chinese. He, later on, went back to China only to see the cruel exploitation of tangled warfare among warlords, imperialism, and China has become comparable to a dead water. So through these deep emotions upon his country, he was able to make this poem.

At first look or read, I can really admit that it is really hard to interpret and understand. The main idea was really hard to find. Readers may have a difficulty of reading this translated poem and they may have confusion in their minds. But if a reader will read it thoroughly, we can really feel the empathy and the defined emotion in it. Readers may take a lot of tries in reading just to fully understand the poem and this may result in different conclusions.

As for the structure of the poem, it is written in five stanzas and each stanza consists of four lines or sentences. the words used was formal. There were also no rhymes written on it and it totally shows that the author wrote it in a free typed form. It uses deep words or symbolism for describing people. It also uses some figurative languages such as exaggeration and metaphor.

Upon understanding the poem, I can say that it talks about unprivileged people. From the title itself, it surely talks about the country is no longer alive. Poor people can’t stand in society via their own. The poet described the poem as dead water by means that there is this ugly water that is unacceptable for those who may across it. There is a discrimination towards unwealthy people and there is no special treatment for them. In this poem, the author seems to be suggesting that a country will never ever cultivate good deeds if they continue to get rid of poor people.

COLLATERAL BEAUTY MOVIE CRITIQUE REVIEW

Collateral Beauty is a movie that is all about a black American Howard Inlet who have suffered a loss particularly the death of his daughter that endangered not only his mental health but also the future of his company. Instead of working on strategies to maintain the cash flow, he focuses on building massive structures out of dominos. Perhaps more troublingly, Howard has gotten into the habit of writing letters. Not to people, but to abstractions which include time, love and death. After Howard mails bitterly letters to Time, Love and Death, His co-workers hire unemployed actors to embody these beings. And hired and pay a private detective to get video of him to make it look like he is crazy so that the board of directors can declare him incompetent.

Basically, Actors played their role very well. they gave justice to their characters at some point. The director of the movie seems to directs efficiently and without repetition. The film’s theme or subject is obviously about family and life. It was shown that Howard can really do anything for his daughter. The purpose of the film was to teach viewers a lesson of how important love is despite every struggle in life. It will surely warm the heart of its audience for it has a unique plot or story.

The movie wisely delivers a message on how to deal with so much sadness or depression we feel in our lives. The title “Collateral Beauty” will already give you a crazy but clever memo that every sadness, every pain and every struggle that we face or that no matter how dark or how difficult our situation is, there is something beautiful that is happening after it. The message was totally heartwarming and the movie was totally worth watching.
